Quake Mapping
Q1 Deathmatch Map Repositories
Engine & Sourceports
- Quake on Steam - a remaster by Nightdive. you need a specific file (pak0/pak1) from the official release to use with other sourceports and engines.
- FTE - the swiss army knife of Q1 sourceports. use it for both SP and MP.
- Ironwail - high performance Q1 sourceport, forked from Quakespasm. you can also use this for NetQuake MP.
- Dark Places - sourceport focused on improved graphics and effects. Can also be used in multiplayer. I've heard it's modding friendly.
- QSS-M - Quakespasm Spiked Multiplayer, the most currently updated competitive client for NetQuake. Great for CTF!
- nQuake - an easy install Quakeworld package. includes the shareware files so you can download and start playing! uses ezQuake engine.
- ezQuake - highly accessible, highly customizable QuakeWorld client. download the latest the builds here.
NetQuake & Quakeworld
- Quakeone - longtime running NetQuake-centric forum
- Quakeworld.nu - QuakeWorld forum, articles, and general hub for the community
- CRxQuake - server mod and hosted servers that can accept Quake remastered, NetQuake, and QuakeWorld clients to play together in one hybrid server. multiple gamemodes and a ranking system. High recommended!
- RuneQuake - Q1 deathmatch mod where you pick up Runes that give you passive and active effects. You can spawn a gravity well black hole that sucks up someone else's summoned Shambler. It's fucking awesome! People are still playing this daily.
- NetQuake.io - play the Shareware version of Quake in your browser. Mainly deathmatch but other mods like Team Fortress and Runequake are available. The player population consists mostly of people at the office and kids at school. Check out the daytime action!
Communities on Discord
- Quake Mapping - search #q1-mapping-help channel for any mapping issues. most likely it's been answered.
- Quake Remastered Community - nowadays it's mostly memes but it's used as the main chat for CRxQuake servers. check out #q1-lfg channel for when people are playing.
- Netquake Players - active NA CTF players and games from time to time.
- Quake.World - the biggest QW discord.
- HL2DM comp - a unique aFPS unlike any other Quake-like or deathmatch. ranked games, seasonal tournaments, and a great place to learn and improve!
- Kingpin.Info - very active community playing Kingpin:LoC with scheduled and impromptu games.
- Flux Dojo - the home of Bloodrailz CTF mod for Quake1. one of the most ADHD, fast paced shooters out there. We haven't even gotten close to discovering the limits of this thing!
- Midnight Guns - MG is a team vs team, round based FPS heavily inspired by Action Quake 2. Think AQ2 wrapped up in a pixelated city-swagger pseudo-cyberpunk style and a ridiculous wall-kick mechanic.
- District - started as a Diabotical community but now emcompasses general (a)FPS.
- US Doom & Quake Community - they host QW games semi-regularly. sometimes it's a small group, sometimes it's 10+ players on Aerowalk.
- DOSBox Deathmatch Club - community of retro-gaming minded players and creators. they host weekly games of Doom2, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Quake, etc.
- GoldSrc Saturdays - a place to catch organized games and beg randoms to play games built on Half-Life's goldsrc engine
- Reload Magazine - the fallout of E1 M1 magazine. A community of gamers and devs talking about cool retro games.
