My best attempt at helping you/myself find something to play
Arena FPS Checklist
These are the characteristics of Arena FPS that I highly value but I don't believe are all necessary to fit into the category. Many of these games won't meet all the criteria.
- Movement (acceleration/trick jump)
- Big weapon arsenal
- Gunplay optimization (combos, selection)
- Item resource gameplay
- Time based gamemode, non-rounds
- Not restricted to only teamplay (there's Duel)
- Identical starts
Movement Legend
- bh - bunnyhop, traditional air strafe/air control and bhop from Quake1
- sj - Quake2/Quake3 style strafejump
- lsj - Light strafejump or strafe running
- kb - knockback weapons IE rocketjump
- dj - the double-jump introduced in Q2, also called the "air step", is the vertical boost gain when jumping up ledges at the right angle/speed
- ddj - the literal "double jump", jumping a second time, mid-air, while in your first jump
- dg - dodge, a mainly horizontal directional dodge akin to Unreal Tournament
- dsh - dash, a small dodge used to initiate a jumping chain
- wk - a dodge done off a wall
- spr - sprint, a short burst of speed usually capped by a gauge
- fa - forward acceleration. speed gain when holding W. also includes forward air control
- cs - crouch-slide, hitting crouch while moving fast that causes you to slide
If there's a game missing or a correction needed, please get in contact and let me know! I've played/tried many, if not most, of these titles but there's only so much time and energy to humanly delve into each one to appreciate each game's uniqueness. I'd welcome and appreciate any help or feedback to improve The List. Hope this helps you find a cool new game to play.
